Project

Here at LTS we have carried out various annual events such as; sporting tournaments, drama and performing arts, cultural activities and many more celebrations throughout the year. This is to ensure that students stay in-tuned with their learning and keep in touch with our traditional and treasured Tamil heritage.

The sport activities include football, which also includes a prize draw to award the students talents and achievements. We have also reached out and held competitions with other neighbouring Tamil schools in previous years in the borough. This has proven to us that it drives friendships between students and helps build their confidence within our local Tamil community. This also we find keeps the students active.

Many of our students take part in Music and Dance concerts such as; Carnatic, Bharathanatyam, Naadagam (Drama), Miridangam, Veena and the Violin. Many of these performances occur throughout the year. These types of events are happening also more and more frequently as students are extremely interested in taking part and learning new skills doing performances for their friends and families. We also find that it’s another driving force to keep the students interested in learning more about our unique solemn Tamil identity.

The cultural activities include the following; Thai Pongal Festival (Tamil Nee Year) which is in January. We organise an event as close as possible to the actually date which is usually the 14th January. The event is organised during the day at the school grounds. During the event we hold many activities such as creating drawn art pictures to highlight Thai Pongal and its decorations importance. This ensures the students utilise their imagination and understand what Thai Pongal represents for our heritage. We also arrange a celebration for the new year with the students which includes serving the traditional 'Thai Pongal Pukkai' and other short-eats like Vadai and Kadalai.

The Navaratri Festival occurs in October, we celebrate this occasion also our LTS on one of the days where Navaratri falls. This again includes exciting performances by our students. Traditional Navaratri food is also served as part of the celebrations.

Also Deepavali/Diwale which take place in November are celebrated here at the school. We encourage the students to utilise their talents for this and ask them to arrange the events with our support.

We also conduct Christmas Celebrations in December for the students to enjoy. This includes performances on an evening around the season for the students to stage their dance and music talents, plus many more activities. These will also take place at LTS. The evening ends with a dinner and dance for all to take part and enjoy. This is simply to replicate the festive and warm season for our students and parents.

As you can see here at LTS we are committed to ensuring that all of our students understand and learn the importance of celebrating our Tamil heritage. All of the celebrations are held at the school grounds, we ask the parents to be involved as much as possible to ensure that what we’re doing is enjoyed by all.
